Stepper motor fault analysis

Stepper motor fault can manifest itself in several ways:

  1.  After starting the control system, the error message Error1 appears immediately.
In this case, the fault may be in the motor, servo driver, or position feedback. Continue with the step Jumper

  2.  The control system starts up, the motor moves during slow movement, but the error appears during rapid movement – rapid traverse Error1 appears .
V tomto případě může být závada v motoru, servodriveru nebo odměřování. Pokračujte krokem Jumper

  3.  The control system starts up, the motor moves during slow movement, but the error appears during rapid movement – rapid traverse.
In this case, the error is probably in the position feedback or insufficient power of the servo driver.

  4.  The control system does not report any error, but the motor does not rotate.
Check the position of the Jumperu

  5.  The motor error appears sporadically.
We recommend inspection by a technician.

Jumper

In the normal state, this jumper is open. In this case, the system checks that the motor is rotating using the signal from the position feedback.

If it is closed, the motor position feedback check is disabled and after starting the system, the Error 0 message always appears briefly.

Use in diagnosing problems with the stepper motor:

  1. If Error1 appears on the control system, try closing the jumper. If the error disappears and the motor rotates (works), the fault is probably in the motor position feedback. If the motor does not rotate with the jumper closed, the fault is probably in the driver or wiring.

If the control system has a fault with the stepper motor, in the vast majority of cases the cause is not directly in the motor, but in the other components. Most likely it is the stepper motor driver or the position feedback.

We have a team of experienced technicians who can help with remote fault analysis and, if necessary, can go to the machine and analyze the problem on site.
